As a part of the Summer in the City Arts Festival and in celebration of his new temporary exhibition ‘Spatial Objects’, join artist Dan Holdsworth on a tour of this exhibition at Durham Castle.

Dan Holdsworth is an internationally renowned artist with work collected by Tate Gallery, London; the V&A, London; the Museum of Modern Art in Vienna and the DG Bank Collection in Munich. Holdsworth’s career is based on photography, digital art and film which explores the meeting of art and science and has seen him travel widely to engage with nature and consider our relationship with landscape in the Anthropocene.
The exhibition at Durham Castle shows his Spatial Objects project, where geological mapping data from Crater Lake National Park in Oregon, USA is transformed into a series of intensely beautiful individual works each based on a single pixel marking a GPS co-ordinate. This ‘zooming in’ allows us to dive into the real and virtual worlds that we live in. The Tunstall Gallery with its sandstone walls and tapestries provides a perfect site for Spatial Objects and enhances our experience of them.
